Dedicated to FREEDOM "There are rights which it is useless to surrender to the government and which governments have yet always been found to invade. These are the rights of thinking and publishing our thoughts by speaking or writing; the right of free commerce; the right of personal freedom." --Thomas Jefferson

Love, by Roy Croft
I love you, Not only for what you are, But for what I am When I am with you.
I love you, Not only for what You have made of yourself, But for what You are making of me.
I love you For the part of me That you bring out; I love you For putting you hand Into my heaped-up heart And passing over All the foolish, weak things That you can't help Dimly seeing there, And for drawing out Into the light All the beautiful belongings That no one else had looked Quite far enough to find.
I love you because you Are helping me to make Of the lumber of my life Not a tavern But a temple; Out of the works Of my every day Not a reproach But a song. I love you Because you have done More than any creed Could have done To make me good, And more than any fate Could have done To make me happy.
You have done it Without a touch, Without a word, Without a sign. You have done it By being yourself. Perhaps that is what Being a friend means, After all.

Last night I watched a future president of the United States give a speech
...and it was magnificent. I've not felt inspired as he made me in years. My favorite line of the speech....
"Yet even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there's not a liberal America and a conservative America - there's the United States of America. "
As if that wasn't brilliant enough he continued...
"The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States"
I was inspired by his life story...awestruck by the genius of my country and by the promise fulfilled by his life... Barack made me so proud to be an American, I was almost bursting with pride. He eloquently detailed exactly what we love about this country...all of us...
"That is the true genius of America, a faith in the simple dreams of its people, the insistence on small miracles. That we can tuck in our children at night and know they are fed and clothed and safe from harm. That we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door. That we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe or hiring somebody's son. That we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will he counted - or at least, most of the time. "
It was my honor and great privilege to watch Barack Obama last night. And even greater honor is that I am an Illinoisan and I'll get the privilege of having him represent me in the senate.

Republicans Want Terrorism Law Made Permanent
ABSTRACT - Congressional Republicans are maneuvering to make permanent sweeping antiterrorism powers granted to federal law enforcement agents after attacks of Sept 11, 2001, in so-called Patriot Act; move is likely to touch off strong objections from many Democrats and even some Republicans in Congress who believe law has already given government too much power to spy on Americans; provisions are set to expire at end of 2005 unless Congress re-authorizes them (M) Working with the Bush administration, Congressional Republicans are maneuvering to make permanent the sweeping antiterrorism powers granted to federal law enforcement agents after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, officials said today.
The move is likely to touch off strong objections from many Democrats and even some Republicans in Congress who believe that the Patriot Act, as the legislation that grew out of the attacks is known, has already given the government too much power to spy on Americans.
